Fans and Players Aren’t Only Ones Arriving Early for Super Bowl XLIX

Lombardi Trophy Delivery

Fans, players and coaches aren’t the only ones arriving early for Super Bowl XLIX. As the Official Delivery Service Sponsor of the NFL and the Super Bowl, FedEx provided the safe and on-time delivery of the Vince Lombardi Trophy to the NFL Experience Engineered by GMC, marking a milestone in the festivities surrounding The Big Game.

We used our logistical expertise to move the iconic trophy from New York City to Phoenix via FedEx® delivery service. During transport, the trophy was monitored by SenseAware®, powered by FedEx, which tracked its location in near real-time as it moved across the country. In addition to keeping tabs on where it was, SenseAware also monitored what was going on inside the package. Temperature, shock and humidity reports were sent to stakeholders throughout its journey, and the SenseAware device even monitored if the trophy was exposed to light while in transit, which helped ensure optimum security. This type of environmental monitoring is crucial for high-value, critical shipments, such as pharmaceuticals, aerospace materials and art.

FedEx Express courier Richard Bauer made the final delivery to the NFL Experience site with the help of former NFL player and Super Bowl XXXIV champion Torry Holt, who was on hand to sign for the special package. The trophy arrived in a FedEx Express zero-emission all-electric vehicle, one of more than 750 alternative-fuel vehicles in our global fleet. Investing in future technologies such as alternative fuel and electric vehicles is part of our EarthSmart program, designed to guide our environmental commitment in the communities where we operate.
