FedEx Courier KOs Competition en Route to World Women’s Boxing Championship
International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.
In honor of International Women’s Day, we are proud to share the story of Nicky Zhang, a FedEx courier in Mississauga, Ontario.
Nicky was born in Shenyang, China and grew up in a household tarnished by domestic violence. As a child, she would often find herself caught in the middle and coming to the defense of her mother. From this experience, her fighting spirit was born.
Despite her challenging childhood, Nicky turned her violent upbringing into a positive future when she took up boxing. The sport took her to places she never dreamed possible and, by the age of nineteen, she was a four-time Chinese National Champion and went on to win the first World Women’s Boxing Championship.
She has come a long way from her roots in China. Today, she is a FedEx courier near Toronto and is one of the most positive and motivating people you’ll ever meet. She brings hope to other victims of domestic abuse by volunteering her time and sharing her story and keeps her foot in the boxing ring by maintaining a vigorous training schedule and teaching young up-and-coming boxers.
Watch her video to see how her fighting spirit helped lead her to four national championships and a world women’s championship.
