FedEx Team Members Celebrate MLK Day

January 17, 2011

In Washington DC, FedEx team members are honoring one of Dr. King’s famous statements: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘what are you doing for others?’”

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, DC-area team members are commemorating the values and principles of Dr. King by leading the meal preparation and assembly of thousands of meals to Food & Friends’ clients. The FedEx Special Delivery Truck is also on the road making deliveries. This volunteer-led initiative will directly support Food & Friends’ ongoing mission to provide home-delivered meals and groceries to people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging illnesses in the community.

FedEx Services Manager Jeffrey Banks has a special connection to Food and Friends as he grew up down the street. Even though Food & Friends serves 14 counties, it’s like coming home for Jeffery since he understands the need for the area on this day. Jeffery said, “Serving the community on MLK Day is an opportunity for him to celebrate Dr. King’s life-long commitment to doing for others.”

As the individual who drove the Special Delivery Truck to several clients in the Metro DC yesterday I feel blessed to have been able to help. Special thanks to my manager Kim Bruno who was my co-pilot and navigator. Food and Friends is an amazing organization staffed by a wonderful group of caring hard working individuals. This important day opened my eyes to what these folks do every single day.
    Thank You Dave Smith

As home to the Civil Rights Museum and the unfortunate last days of Dr. King, our extended Memphis community and the FedEx team are very proud of all the civic and community-organized efforts held each year nation-wide to commemorate the birthday of this great leader.

Great job, DC – BZ to all of you.
