Saving A Life – “All in a Day’s Work”

June 3, 2015

We’re #DeliveringThanks to FedEx UK courier Jonathan Clapham for saving a young woman’s life on the road.

Jonathan was going about his regular route one day near York, in north-central England, when he came upon a serious traffic accident. A car was upside down in a ditch, with smoke pouring out. A young woman lay trapped in a car.

Jonathan recognized immediately this was a matter of life and death, but no emergency services had arrived yet. So he stopped, directed others to call for an ambulance, and quickly ran to the overturned vehicle. He reached inside and turned off the engine, then carefully carried the dazed, shocked woman to safety away from the smoking car.

He stayed with her until emergency services arrived and he helped police with their report. We’re happy to report that she was doing well when Jonathan left the scene.

The most remarkable part of the story is that Jonathan returned to his route, made all of his deliveries on time, and didn’t mention a word of the incident to his colleagues. It was “all in a day’s work” for him! We only found out about his heroic act through word of mouth on this Facebook post, and we want to publicly applaud Jonathan Clapham for jumping right in to help when he saw a great need.
