It may surprise you to hear but even in thriving New York City, food poverty is around every corner. Throughout the five boroughs, approximately 1.4 million people — mainly women, children, seniors, the working poor and people with disabilities — rely on soup kitchens and food pantries. Approximately 3.3 million New Yorkers experience difficulty affording food for themselves and their families, an increase of 60 percent since 2003.
In a continuing effort to help address these issues, FedEx is donating 5 meals for every new “like” the Food Bank receives on their Facebook page the entire month of February. FedEx will continue donating until the Food Bank reaches 5,000 new fans! That translates to 25,000 meals for our hungry neighbors!
FedEx began working with the Food Bank of NYC back in November of 2008. They needed some help with a delivery to their Hunts Point Warehouse, and local FedEx team members stepped-up to make the delivery, sort the food and repack for distribution to soup kitchens throughout the five boroughs. Since this first event, FedEx has continued to support the Food Bank both monetarily and logistically through volunteer support, in-kind shipping, and sponsorship funds. This month, FedEx continues its support of the Food Bank along with all of our New York City neighbors in need who rely on the Food Bank’s services to make ends meet. “Like” the Foodbank today and help put end to hunger in New York City: http://www.facebook.com/foodbanknyc
