David L. Cunningham
FedEx Express Leadership: President and CEO
David L. Cunningham, Jr., is president and chief executive officer of Memphis-based FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company. He is responsible for the leadership and direction of the FedEx Express group, which includes FedEx Express and TNT Express. He also serves on the Strategic Management Committee of FedEx Corp., which sets the strategic direction for the FedEx enterprise.
Prior to his current role, Cunningham was chief operating officer and president, international, for FedEx Express. He led all customer-facing aspects of the company’s U.S. operations and its international business, spanning more than 220 countries and territories across the globe.
Cunningham joined FedEx in 1982 in operations at the FedEx Express World Hub in Memphis. In 1989, he was appointed manager of international financial planning and control for the Asia Pacific region. In 1992, he assumed the role of corporate managing director of worldwide financial planning in the U.S.
In 1994, he returned to the Asia Pacific region, serving first as CFO and vice president of Finance, based in Hong Kong; then regional vice president of FedEx in the South Pacific, based in Singapore.
In 1999, Cunningham became regional president of the FedEx Express Asia Pacific region in Hong Kong, a position he held for 15 years. In that role, he was responsible for developing and executing all corporate strategies and operations in one of the company’s most dynamic regions.
He is currently a member of the Board of Governors of Junior Achievement Worldwide, a board member of the U.S.-China Business Council, and a board member of Christian Brothers University.
Cunningham holds a master’s degree in marketing and a Bachelor of Science (Finance) from the University of Memphis.
