It’s always great when a plan comes together, and June 4th marks the official grand opening of our new employee entrance and screening facility at the MEM World HUB. This construction is part of a much bigger multi-million dollar project which has been ongoing for the last two years. At the HUB we call it the “180k plan." In layperson terms, the 180k plan is a project to allow us to increase our box sort rate from 160,000 packages per hour up to 180,000 boxes per hour (hence the 180k name).

I recently had the pleasure of helping to host NBC’s Brian Williams at the FedEx World Hub in Memphis. Brian was in town to film a profile of FedEx and our founder Fred Smith for his new show, Rock Center with Brian Williams which aired Wednesday night. We gave him the full FedEx Express immersion that night including a jump seat ride in one of our newest B777’s from Newark to Memphis with Captain Paul Cassel, an opportunity to stand on the tarmac while some of our 145 planes landing that night taxied in the distance, a look into the package sorting at the Matrix and the SPSS (w

What an amazing event! On Saturday, October 16, the Memphis World Hub had a Family Day, to celebrate the World’s Best Cargo Hub award bestowed on us by the Institute of Transport Management in London. Almost 6000 people came to show their family what their workplace looks like. We had examples of all of our aircraft fleet, and most of our ground support equipment. We had games for the kids and food for everyone. We even had tours of the facility so our team members’ families could see where they worked.

This is the roof of the Memphis World Hub. In August, this is a hot place to be, but I’m going to spend 36 hours here on the roof in support of Freeland, a youth camp supported by Diversity Memphis.FedEx has been a presenting sponsor for the Annual Diversity Memphis Walks since they began. My boss, Bill Logue, was one of the founding members.

I am sure many of you have heard the MEM Airport will be closing down one of its runways for repairs/resurfacing from March through November of this year. Let me spend a few minutes letting you know the actions we are taking to minimize the impact to our customers.
