Imagine a garden sprouting with broccoli, spinach, carrots, radishes, and beets that can be harvested and shared with students in a creative classroom learning environment…That became a reality for students at Hutchinson Elementary School in Atlanta, GA with the help of FedEx volunteers and Captain Planet Foundation (CPF) that has funded over 750 school or community gardens, outdoor learning labs, and pollinator gardens.

Each new school year brings excitement for students to begin their classes and for teachers eager to inspire them. To make the school year successful, school supplies are needed … a pencil, pen, backpack, folder or paper, among many other items, sound simple by definition, but it makes a world of difference for students and teachers to have these basic resources in the classroom.

To celebrate FedEx’s 40th Anniversary in Atlanta, FedEx volunteers joined Trees Atlanta to help with tree maintenance in Freedom Park near downtown Atlanta, which is one of the most heavily used green spaces in Atlanta due to the miles of biking and walking trails that weave throughout the park. Trees Atlanta plants thousands of trees each year and maintains them for a minimum of two years in order to give them a better chance to survive long term in the tough urban environment.

Recently, nearly 30 FedEx volunteers joined Food & Friends in Washington, D.C. to celebrate FedEx’s “40 years of delivering a better future.” Through their nearly 90 hours of volunteer service that day, the volunteers were also able to ensure Food & Friends could keep our promise of providing specialized nutritious meals to our clients living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging illnesses.

Whether it’s providing much needed aid in their community or protecting the environment, FedEx Ground’s Hagerstown, Md., employees always deliver. Throughout the spring, volunteers have been actively working to boost the people and world around them. They’ve been busy at the Maryland Food Bank, sprucing up a nearby national park and supporting the Salvation Army.Not bad for a team that’s also supporting one of the largest central sorting facilities in the FedEx Ground network.
