At the beginning of most our lives, we share two fundamental desires: learning and movement. In fact, most babies take their first steps when they are less than a year, and are walking well by the time they are 14 or 15 months. Before you know it, kids are not just walking but running, jumping, skipping and you name it – any other physical gymnastics that most of us adults find exhausting just to look at!

Arthur Ashe once said, “When bright young minds can’t afford college, America pays the price.” I wonder what price America pays when statistics show that one in every five black males in the U.S. drops out of high school, and the current dropout rate for Hispanic males is almost four times that of white males. I’ve often heard it said, “You’re either part of the solution or part of the problem.” FedEx wants to be a part of the solution. That’s why in 2008, we pledged $1 Million to Teach for America to help expand the size and diversity of the corps.
