Coach Joe Gibbs Motivates Small Business to be Prepared

April 30, 2013

Watch the brief video below associated with this blog post. You will hear firsthand from Coach Joe Gibbs, a small business owner himself, about the importance of being prepared – and how to get prepared – for a disaster.

I first met Coach a couple years ago in Washington, DC at an event commemorating the FedEx donation of a $100,000 canteen truck to The Salvation Army for use in disaster response and year round feeding programs. Coach was present at the donation event to help drive awareness for the great work The Salvation Army does in the community, especially in disaster response.

While being super supportive of disaster response, Coach is also truly passionate about preparedness!

In his video post, Coach helps drive awareness for the American Red Cross Ready Ratingä program. It provides a free assessment that small businesses may take to determine their preparedness level and provides steps to follow for improving their level of preparedness. According to the Insurance Information Institute, up to 40% of small businesses are unable to recover from disasters. As part of our sponsorship of this year’s America’s Small Business Summit in Washington, DC, FedEx is participating on a panel addressing small business preparedness. Other panelists include representatives from the US Chamber’s Business Civic Leadership Center and the American Red Cross. The panel is designed to help small businesses learn what they can do to help ensure their businesses stay in business should disaster strike.

The Summit is an annual US Chamber of Commerce event. It provides a great opportunity for small businesses to network and to learn best practices successful entrepreneurs. This year the Summit runs from April 29 through May 1.

We hope you will be able to attend the Summit, and the preparedness panel at the Summit. And we urge you to make the time to take the Ready Ratingä assessment. You may also click here to download a free disaster preparedness checklist from the FedEx small business website.

Many thanks to Coach Gibbs for supporting small business preparedness! Are you prepared?
