Day Two of Competition at NTDC
The drivers were focused and determined on Day Two of the National Truck Driving Championships. An early morning breakfast for the Champions kicked off the day for all competitors – including the 115 drivers from Team FedEx. After breakfast, they made their way to the Convention Center to begin the day of the skills portion of the event.
On the first day of competition, drivers are divided by class, half compete in the pre-trip inspection and the others take their turn on the driving course. On the second day, they swap places.
The tension could definitely be felt throughout the group — especially for the drivers who took their turn on the obstacle course. When asked, the competitors agreed that the course was a tough challenge this year. Bill Strode is competing in the Flatbed class. This is his first time at nationals in his 17-year career with FedEx Freight. “I had no idea it would be like this.” Weeks of practice have lead up to this week. Bill said that “every day is practice. I treat all my deliveries like they are obstacles.”
Best of luck to all of the Team FedEx drivers on the final day of competition.
