Delivering Holiday Cheer to Our Troops
Today, our nation celebrates Veteran’s Day. On this day and always, let me offer my heartfelt thanks to the many men and women who have served our country in the Armed Forces. Their dedication has allowed all of us to enjoy the freedoms that we know today.
I would also like to recognize some very special people who are working to bring holiday cheer to the troops serving the United States today, both here and abroad. For the fourth year, the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation will unite Christmas tree growers and retailers to donate 16,000 live Christmas trees to families of the men and women in the Armed Forces. FedEx is honored to be a part of this program, providing logistical and transportation support. In total, we will pick and deliver trees to 45 military bases in the U.S. and abroad.
You may have read the Trees for Troops press release, but here’s a short recap of our activities:
- FedEx Freight will pick up 300 trees in Columbus, OH to be delivered via FedEx Express to troops in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.
- FedEx Office is hosting greeting card signing events at more than 30 of its centers nationwide.
- A second international delivery of another 100 trees departing from the FedEx hub in Indianapolis on Nov. 20 for service members stationed in Bahrain and the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet.
Over the past three years, FedEx Freight has traveled more than 90,000 miles to pick up and deliver Christmas trees as part of the Trees for Troops program. Along the way, many FedEx employees have volunteered their time to support this program by unloading Christmas trees and serving refreshments to family members who have come to take the trees home. Please know that I appreciate all that you do in this effort and every day, serving our troops, our communities and our customers.
