How working from home is contributing to our sustainability efforts: EarthSmart @ Work
Did you know that working from home programs can save not only time and money, but can also help reduce carbon emissions?
About 900 of our FedEx TechConnect customer service representatives are doing just that – working remotely through our EarthSmart @ Work program, REACH (Reps Engaged and Connected @ Home). EarthSmart encourages FedEx team members to share in the FedEx commitment to a sustainable world through ideas and actions.
Over the last three years, REACH has already spared the planet 2,800 tons of carbon emissions. As we continue to transition customer service reps to work remotely from their homes, the savings compound. In fact, every person who works from home saves an additional 2,500 pounds of carbon emissions each year. That’s a total savings of 2,250,000 lbs of CO2 per year (or the equivalent of planting over 26,000 trees and letting them grow for 10 years!)
Team members who work from home enjoy more time to balance their personal life with the elimination of commute times, reduced expenses related to commute, reduced clothing expenditure, and reduced snack machine temptation!
And because REACH is a virtually paperless system, the program reduces waste, as well. As gas prices rise and everyday environmental concerns grow, FedEx is redefining the workplace.
