Oklahoma tornado disaster relief – working with the best to make a difference
Last week we all sat in disbelief as we witnessed the aftermath of the tornado in the Moore, Oklahoma area that left 24 people dead, including nine children, and displaced thousands of others.
Our hearts and prayers are with everyone touched by this tragedy, in Oklahoma and beyond.
At FedEx, the safety and well-being of our team members and customers in the affected area is our top priority. We are proud to assist with relief efforts by supporting some of the world’s most capable disaster response organizations – organizations with whom we have longstanding relationships.
In addition to providing $1.2 million cash and in-kind support for the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program, FedEx is providing $50,000 in additional funds in support of Direct Relief and Heart to Heart International.
We are also providing these organizations with ongoing in-kind transportation assistance that allows them to get needed supplies into the impacted areas quickly, including food, shelter, clothing, medical supplies and hygiene kits. Direct Relief is even using FedEx SenseAware technology that enables them to ship and monitor their temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical supplies to the affected area.
FedEx has a long history of using its global network to deliver life-saving aid and support to victims of natural disasters.
I would like to urge all of our team members and customers who want to help in this crisis to reach out to these organizations directly. Because of logistical challenges in the affected area, they prefer financial support over the collection of new and used items.
