Our Commitment to Closing Gaps in Education
I had the wonderful opportunity recently of speaking before a panel on education sponsored by FedEx at the 44th Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. ALC cultivates engaging policy discussions on issues that impact black communities around the world. It was my privilege to relay FedEx’s commitment to education to many honored guests in attendance.
Our commitment is focused on innovative solutions that help close achievement gaps in education. The programs we support span the globe, and address some of the top challenges facing students and teachers around the world. Together with some of the top nonprofit organizations in education, we are helping tomorrow’s young leaders gain the skills and experience they need to succeed.
One of FedEx’s leading education partners, Teach For America, co-hosted the ALC panel.

Thanks to the support of FedEx and others, 50 percent of our teaching corps this school year identifies as a person of color – compared with less than 20 percent of teachers nationwide – and 22 percent identifies as African American. This progress would not have been possible without FedEx’s leadership support,” said Kwame Griffith, Executive Vice President of Regional Operations at Teach For America.
FedEx is proud to have played a leading role to help TFA build a team of experienced Diversity and Inclusion leaders who have developed a robust network of diversity-focused resource groups and launched the Sponsors for Educational Opportunity/TFA summer internship program.
It is in everybody’s best interests for our children to have the highest quality education possible, taught by a diverse group of dedicated educators – people who are personally invested in the success of our young people over whom they have tremendous influence. We look forward to their continued success and a bright future.
