While natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes make national headlines, the reality is that home fires cause more fatalities annually than other disasters combined, with someone in the U.S. dying in a home fire seven times a day.

Last week we all sat in disbelief as we witnessed the aftermath of the tornado in the Moore, Oklahoma area that left 24 people dead, including nine children, and displaced thousands of others.Our hearts and prayers are with everyone touched by this tragedy, in Oklahoma and beyond.

The New York Stock Exchange recently recognized FedEx and several other companies for corporate giving and support of victims impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Representatives from the companies rang the Closing Bell® at the New York Stock Exchange on Nov. 8.

We recently wrapped up in Dallas, Texas another season of our Race to Prepare events with the American Red Cross, NASCAR, local schools and FedEx team members. In the photo associated with this post you'll see, over the shoulders of FedEx volunteers, FedEx Express Sr. Manager Kevin Sisk at the podium addressing a crowd of students. That's NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin waiting his turn at the microphone!

Tomorrow the first of many FedEx charter flights loaded with relief supplies will be touching down in the Dominican Republic – delivering desperately-needed medical equipment, food, water and other materials to the victims of Haiti’s catastrophic earthquake. Over the next several days, more than 155 tons of donated supplies will be shipped to Haiti via FedEx as part of our disaster relief efforts with organizations such as the American Red Cross, Heart to Heart International, Direct Relief International, Water Missions and World Vision.
