I had the pleasure of participating in the 2013 CEO Summit for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Bali, Indonesia earlier this month. This gathering took place alongside APEC’s annual meeting of leaders from 21 of the world’s most dynamic economies. They made important progress to advance the future of global trade – the underpinning of innovation, entrepreneurship, jobs and sustainable growth.

When you consider that China today exports 11.1% of world trade, or that Indonesia’s e-commerce trade grew 71% in 2013alone, it’s easy to see why Asia’s growth is increasingly felt worldwide.  Yet trade expansion does not happen without smart policy. And that’s really the story behind why FedEx is supporting this week’s APEC CEO Summit in Bali, Indonesia.

From Russia With Trade

I just returned from the 2012 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO Summit in Vladivostok, Russia, where leaders made steady advances to boost global free trade. A former Soviet era outpost, Vladivostok was once off-limits to foreigners as well as Soviet citizens. Russia made an impressive showing for the visiting APEC business and government leaders, spending billions of dollars on stunning new bridges and an entirely new university campus, where the APEC meetings were held.
