Like many great places to work, FedEx Office makes it a priority each year to recognize the hard work and success of our team members. The annual Team of the Year competition – in place since the 1980s, when the company was known as Kinko’s – is reserved to honor the best-of-the-best in our organization. One cluster, or group of stores, and one standalone center are selected based on their record of customer service, team member retention and financial performance. We also honor the top sales team in the nation for their hard work, sales performance and commitment to customers.

This is the roof of the Memphis World Hub. In August, this is a hot place to be, but I’m going to spend 36 hours here on the roof in support of Freeland, a youth camp supported by Diversity Memphis.FedEx has been a presenting sponsor for the Annual Diversity Memphis Walks since they began. My boss, Bill Logue, was one of the founding members.

When I was approached to be a member of the IT team to implement the new FedEx Asia Pacific hub in Guangzhou, China, I didn’t know how to react. Today FORTUNE announced its list of America’s 100 Best Companies to work for 2009, and I am very proud FedEx made the list for the 11th time in the past 12 years. We are the largest company (in terms of number of employees) to make the cut, so it’s an even greater honor—after all, the bigger the company, the more challenging it is to manage for excellence. In addition, scores for participating companies are partially based on the responses of several hundred of their own employees.

FedEx is well known for it's creativity and a variety of "industry firsts"....and many employees under estimate their ability to truly make a difference, think outside the box, and make an everlasting impact. A few years ago I was challenged with a project, and that was to find a way to increase our customer drop off points. One idea was to create a "slot" on the side of our FedEx vehicles where customers in major markets could drop off their overnight letters or courier pak envelopes in any of the literally hundreds of FedEx vehicles.
