It was certainly great news on October 28 when the Great Place to WorkInstitute ranked FedEx Express #5 on the organization’s first-ever list of the World’s Best Multinational Workplaces 2011. Employees working at the 25 companies on the list were selected to take a survey conducted by the Great Place to Work Institute that asked them to share their views on numerous factors that included credibility, fairness and pride.

Over 50 FedEx team members joined Keep Indianapolis Beautiful to help restore and beautify the Pogue’s Run watershed on the Eastside of Indianapolis. As part of the corporation’s EarthSmart Outreach program, FedEx employees in twelve cities have teamed with local nonprofit agencies for a day of service addressing pressing urban environmental challenges.

This holiday season, I give special thanks to FedEx, for keeping the People First and honoring those purple-blooded team members that truly love this company, their jobs, and those in their community!On October 28, 2010, FedEx Express honored 26 employees for their above and beyond service to FedEx and the community. Eleven employees received the Purple Promise Award and 15 received the Humanitarian Award.

Like many great places to work, FedEx Office makes it a priority each year to recognize the hard work and success of our team members. The annual Team of the Year competition – in place since the 1980s, when the company was known as Kinko’s – is reserved to honor the best-of-the-best in our organization. One cluster, or group of stores, and one standalone center are selected based on their record of customer service, team member retention and financial performance. We also honor the top sales team in the nation for their hard work, sales performance and commitment to customers.

Today FORTUNE announced its list of America’s 100 Best Companies to work for 2009, and I am very proud FedEx made the list for the 11th time in the past 12 years. We are the largest company (in terms of number of employees) to make the cut, so it’s an even greater honor—after all, the bigger the company, the more challenging it is to manage for excellence. In addition, scores for participating companies are partially based on the responses of several hundred of their own employees.
