Using Our Hands and Global Footprint to Make a Difference in Latin America and the Caribbean
It is no secret that FedEx team members participate in community service projects year-round. But every year, during FedEx Cares Week, it is truly inspiring to see so many team members from the global FedEx family come together to support their communities in meaningful projects around the world. The photos tell the story: a lot of purple t-shirts dotting the planet and proclaiming that FedEx cares….but it is the people in those t-shirts that prove it.

Caring for the Common Good: FedEx Cares Week
I must admit: Before 2005, I was not a United Way donor.I didn’t understand why I should if I already gave to local agencies in my community. But that year, I participated in the United Way “Loaned Executive” program, a FedEx effort that provides professional talent and leadership to help the United Way’s annual fundraising campaign. During orientation week, I visited more than a dozen nonprofits in the Mid-South that receive support from United Way.

FedEx Investments, Acquisitions in Latin America Spur Economic Growth
Often referred to as the “Milan of Latin America,” Medellín, Colombia, is considered by many to be a fashion mecca, a city with sought after production markets in the textile industry. It’s this reputation for success, coupled with growth in other industries like tourism and flower-growing, that have made Medellín an increasingly important economic center for small and medium sized entrepreneurs in Colombia.

Heroes Among Us
Last Saturday, crowded in a small ballroom in the Ipanema neighborhood of Rio, the future of Latin America unfolded. There, one hundred students from across the region came together to compete for the honor of being Junior Achievement’s Company of the Year. Beyond the event, though, these students will become the future entrepreneurs in their nations. Their creativity, passion and innovations will drive the economic future of this region.

Closing the Education Gap in Latin America
This week, hundreds of Latin American high school students journeyed to Buenos Aires for the first Junior Achievement Company of the Year Competition in the Americas. Cargosas won the inaugural FedEx Global Access Award by successfully marketing a reusable tote bag made from recycled materials. This team from Ecuador best incorporated concepts related to international trade, environmental sustainability and global market expansion.
