Making the Walk to School Safer

“They don’t have as many wrecks around here anymore,” according to Treadwell Elementary School student Tarvaris Smith, age 9.  “It’s a lot safer for all the kids.”That’s how most of Tarvaris’ classmates feel after all the recent improvements designed to make their walk to school safer.

How FedEx makes walking in Memphis – and around the world – safer for children

Fifteen years ago, the FedEx Global Citizenship team discovered a unique nonprofit called Safe Kids Worldwide (known then as the National Safe Kids Campaign). Their mission is to help prevent childhood injuries. With tens of thousands of vehicles on the world’s roadways and with safety a central value of the company, we approached Safe Kids about developing a child pedestrian safety campaign with support from FedEx.

My Marine Corps Marathon

On October 25th, the United States Marine Corps hosted their annual marathon in the nation's capital. This 26.2 mile journey through the streets and past the historical sites and monuments was a thrill. The 4:45 am wake-up call was not. Earlier this year, I had submitted an application to FedEx to run on behalf of Safe Kids Worldwide. My story focused on the recent death of my brother, Philip, and on the need to protect of our most precious assets, our children. I mentioned that running 26.2 miles was a good start.
