At the beginning of most our lives, we share two fundamental desires: learning and movement. In fact, most babies take their first steps when they are less than a year, and are walking well by the time they are 14 or 15 months. Before you know it, kids are not just walking but running, jumping, skipping and you name it – any other physical gymnastics that most of us adults find exhausting just to look at!

The Global Citizenship team has supported the Memphis Challenge program for several years through charitable giving. Team members used their knowledge and skills as writers to assist Memphis-area high school seniors who are a part of this program. Informally known as the “FedEx Design Team,” those team members have conducted an annual workshop since 2007 on “How to Write the Winning College Entrance Essay.”

Do you hear that sound? No, it’s not the clicking of Santa’s reindeers or jingle bells. It’s the clicking of keyboards across the nation as we head into the thick of the holiday shopping season. We started with Black Friday, then Small Business Saturday and today we move on to Cyber Monday. In the next few weeks, folks will be scrambling to check off those last minute gifts – many of you (like me!) relying heavily on the convenience of online shopping.

In the past couple of years, social media has become important for entrepreneurs to network, reach new and existing customers and learn from experts about how to run a business.

A few months ago, one of my friends in Louisiana asked me to come down to speak to his local Entrepreneur Organization chapter about digital and social media at FedEx. This friend also happens to be one of the largest FedEx customers in Louisiana, which made the request more of a demand. But as a native of Louisiana, it’s always attractive to head farther South during the cold winter months in Memphis, so last month I took him up on a trip to Baton Rouge.
