Twenty years ago Angela Burnett and her family sat around her 6-year-old daughter’s hospital bed and asked for help. Christina had been diagnosed with an inoperable tumor on her spine and the outlook wasn’t good. Through the love and support of family, friends, and her medical team, she persevered and today is the mother of two young children.

In January, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service marked the beginning of a year for service as millions of Americans honored the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr. by volunteering in their communities. This Day of Service initiative focused on Dr. King’s famous statement: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘what are you doing for others?'"

Part of FedEx’s way of showing our thanks is by giving back to the communities in need. For the one out of seven households across the U.S. that is food insecure, Thanksgiving has a deeper meaning.

Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss! On March 2, fifteen FedEx volunteers and approximately 120 Stoner Elementary School children celebrated the famous author’s birthday by reading his books and playing games at a “Seuss on the Loose” carnival, as part of LA’s BEST “Read Across America” initiative. FedEx donated $10,000 to LA’s BEST, one of its local market partners and a nationally known after-school program for at-risk youth in the LA area.
