You Can Be the Difference
I am honored to be serving as general campaign manager for the United Way of the Mid South and chairman of this year’s FedEx United Way campaign. For the latter, I am joined by a team of senior leaders from across the FedEx organization committing their time, their energy and their heart to leading this year’s campaign.
This morning I had the opportunity to attend the kickoff for the United Way Day of Caring in Memphis, the first of several United Way/FedEx Cares days, which take FedEx employees into the community to learn more about—and to help—a United Way agency. I looked out at the crowd of employees wearing FedEx Cares t-shirts, and thought about the ways they would literally get their hands dirty (raking, weed-eating, pruning, planting, cleaning) while helping others. I was humbled by their willingness to participate and make a difference.
This year’s “Be the Difference” campaign is all about the many ways each one of us can be the difference for people we may never meet and for people we know benefit from the services of a United Way agency. Throughout our Sept. 17 – Oct. 29 campaign, I hope we all gain a greater understanding of how we can be the difference. Last year we raised $14.5 million for United Way in corporate and employee donations. That made a difference! This year our overall campaign goal is $14.8 million.
Learn. Participate. Volunteer. These three words capture what each of us can do to help United Way agencies provide needed assistance to countless individuals. Thanks for all you do!
