Brazilian wines showcased in New York and Miami, sponsored by FedEx

July 1, 2007

Miami, February 2, 2007–As official courier, FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transport and global logistics solutions provider, took part in the Wines From Brazil tasting offered to importers and wine critics at Miami’s Porcao steakhouse on February 1. The event made its debut on Tuesday in New York.

The wine tasting featured 13 Brazilian wineries from the Sierra Gaucha region looking to increase their exports by raising awareness of Brazilian wines in the U.S., a market that currently imports 35 percent of the region’s wine.

FedEx Express collaboration with the Brazilian wine industry dates back to 2004 when it developed special packaging for the Brazilian Association of Oenology which often ships bottles around the world for international wine competitions. FedEx helped the association with their packaging when traditional wooden crates were banned by some countries for health and safety reasons, ultimately developing a special lightweight but sturdy paper-based package that not only solved the crate issue, but also resulted in savings of more than 30 percent in shipping costs by replacing the heavy wooden crates.
