FedEx Among “Most Influential Multinationals in China”
SHANGHAI, Aug. 3, 2007 – FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, today won the "2006 Most Influential Multinationals in China Award" from the "2006 Influencing China – Listed Companies Voting." FedEx is the only transportation company to achieve this honor, along with other nine well-known multinationals including Microsoft, Citibank, Coca-Cola, Nokia and Intel.
Co-organized by Shanghai Securities News and Peking University’s Guanghua School of Management, the "2006 Influencing China – Listed Companies Voting" is the first large-scale study to cover local and overseas-listed companies as well as multinationals in China. Aiming to flag the best company practices in the Chinese market, the study tracks financial performance, corporate management, investment return, social responsibility and influencers.
The winners of the "2006 Most Influential Multinationals in China Award" were voted by a panel of experts, institutional investors and individual investors who based their decision on financial performance, social responsibility and influencers. Peking University’s Guanghua School of Management provided academic support. The panel of experts included renowned professors from Peking University, along with officials and scholars from government institutions including the State Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, State-owned Assets Supervision and the Administration Commission.
"This award showcases our continuous commitment to the Chinese market, our premium services to the local customers, and our dedication to the communities in which we work," said Eddy Chan, senior vice president, FedEx China. "The award also demonstrates how our employees in China have driven the success of the company."
China is the fastest-growing international market for FedEx. The first express air carrier to enter the market in 1984, FedEx is now the leader in China’s air cargo industry. At present, FedEx has 58 branches with more than 6,000 employees, and provides more than 200 cities and counties with premium international express and domestic services.
While continually expanding its market in China, FedEx has been actively involved in various nation-wide initiatives focusing on corporate social responsibility. In 2004, FedEx introduced the "Safe Kids Walk This Way" program to China in partnership with SAFE KIDS Worldwide. To date, the program has been held in more than 2,000 schools across China, with more than one million pupils receiving road safety training. More than 400 FedEx employees volunteered their time for this program, which contributes to the improvement of safety surrounding the school areas.
FedEx also partners with the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital to promote “Saving Sight” in China through medical training programs on blindness prevention and treatment. In 2006, about 300 FedEx employees from the Pearl River Delta region volunteered their time to help prevent blindness in China. "FedEx cares about the communities in which we live and work," added Eddy Chan. “We are committed to corporate social responsibility and are constantly seeking ways to contribute to the local community. The ‘2006 Most Influential Multinationals in China Award’ is a great recognition for our efforts.”
