FedEx Cares Week Launches in Cities Across Australia, New Zealand with Events to Help the Hungry
Australia, September 25, 2015 – FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, will celebrate the eighth annual FedEx Cares Week in Asia Pacific from Sept. 10 – Nov. 7 by giving employees the chance to give back to their local communities.
‘Cooking for a Cause’ events will be held across the week in conjunction with Oz Harvest and Kiwi Harvest in a range of locations including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Auckland, and Christchurch.
Around 130 FedEx volunteers will donate their time and culinary skills to help cook and deliver 2,000 fresh, nourishing meals for free to charities including Ronald McDonald House (NZ), Wesley Mission (SYD), The Father Bob Maguire Foundation (MEL), Manna (PER), and The Macedonian Meal (BNE).
“FedEx Cares Week is a fantastic opportunity for FedEx employees to give back to their communities, and it’s something we’re incredibly proud to encourage and facilitate,” said Kim Garner, managing director, FedEx Express, Australasia. “Food wastage is a huge issue, with approximately eight to ten billion dollars of food wasted in Australia each year. We’re really happy to support Oz Harvest and Kiwi Harvest in ensuring this food goes to people who need it.”
FedEx Cares Week is a global initiative and is part of FedEx wider commitment to creating an enjoyable working environment for employees, as well as helping to bring about positive change in communities around the world. FedEx employees are encouraged to give back to their communities in any way they can, whether it’s planting a tree, sprucing up the local library, delivering goods to people in need, or helping to build a home.
In the 2014 FedEx Cares Week 15,822 FedEx team members volunteered 69,065 hours in more than 500 cities around the world.
