FedEx CEO Fred Smith Addresses Game Changers for the U.S. Economy
FedEx Chairman, President and CEO Frederick W. Smith participated in a panel discussion on restoring America’s economic growth hosted by the Committee for Economic Development.
To renew America’s economy, Mr. Smith emphasized understanding the effects of the country’s reliance on imported petroleum, recognizing the importance of international trade, lowering the corporate tax rate and increasing capital equipment, infrastructure and software investment, which are highly correlated to job creation.
The discussion highlighted a McKinsey Global Institute study that identified a set of “game changers” that can significantly impact the U.S. economy, GDP, productivity and job creation by 2020. The five game changing opportunities included:
- Knowledge-intensive trade
- Big data analytics
- Infrastructure investment and productivity
- Talent and workforce development
