FedEx Expands Program To Enable Faster, Cost-Effective Exporting For Small- and Medium-Size Companies

MIAMI – March 28, 2006 – FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company and a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), has expanded its FedEx PyMEx Membership Program to help small- and medium-size businesses in six Latin American countries join the region’s growing export market and become more competitive players in the global marketplace.

The PyMEx program now will offer a comprehensive suite of services and tools to meet the needs of small- and medium-size businesses (SMBs) on a specific, country-by-country basis in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico, in conjunction with local government agencies and industry associations. 

Mexico, the first country to launch the FedEx PyMEx Membership Program last year, now has more than 3,000 SMBs participating.   The program was also   successfully launched in Brazil.

“Helping small and medium-sized companies become stronger and more competitive exporters is a priority for FedEx,” says Juan N. Cento, president, Latin America and Caribbean Division, FedEx Express.  “FedEx is a premier ally of this business sector and provides more than transportation services by helping SMBs take advantage of global trade.”

Education on international commerce is a key element of the FedEx PyMEx Membership Program and includes export seminars and practical workshops throughout the region.   The seminars feature subject matter experts in local export issues, new shipping technologies, distribution and cost-saving strategies. To date, dozens of seminars have been conducted throughout the region

FedEx is also rolling out country-specific Web sites dedicated to the SMB segment.  In Mexico, for example, SMBs can find everything they need to export successfully and cost-effectively by visiting www.fedexpymex.com.   The Web site offers the latest in shipping news and provides a calendar of events listing key seminars and congresses related to the shipping sector.  The site’s latest edition offers an online chat/consulting service provided in conjunction with Mexico’s Ministry of Economy.  Similar country-specific Web sites are being developed throughout Latin Americaand the Caribbean

The FedEx PyMEx Membership Program also provides businesses with feasibility and competitiveness assessments, expert assistance with logistics and updated information about customs regulations.    A suite of e-commerce tools is also available at no cost on www.fedex.com, providing critical information to assist SMBs with the exporting process.

The program also highlights the FedEx Packaging Lab in Memphis, Tennessee, which tests more than 3,000 packages per year for customers at no cost.   This helps SMBs save on shipping costs and prevent damage and loss by ensuring that customers have cost-effective and durable packaging.
