FedEx Express Conducts One-Day Job Shadow Program
FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, conducted a one-day job shadow program for 15 students from Seitoku University high school for girls on March 12 at the FedEx Makuhari World Service Center.
The job shadow program gives students an up-close opportunity to better understand how their studies relate to work in the real world. FedEx regularly conducts the program through its relationship with Junior Achievement Japan, an economic education organization which strives to train young people with the skills they need to go out into society.
At this installment of the job shadow program, FedEx employees from marketing, customer service and human resources individually mentored students, teaching them about FedEx business, employees’ duties, and the importance of teamwork and responsibility to customers.
Students who participated said, “I was surprised that several FedEx employees used English in a conference call even though you can’t see who you’re talking to. The job shadower taught me not just to translate to English when making materials but also to think of ways to add explanations about Japan to make things easier to understand. I was able to learn about a career I knew nothing about and it opened my eyes to infinite possibilities.” At a discussion after the job shadowing, FedEx employee volunteers explained their personal journey from their school days to their current career and answered questions from students.”
“Around the world FedEx supports young people who shoulder our future,” said Masamichi Ujiie, regional vice president, North Pacific, FedEx Express. “This is the eleventh job shadow program we have conducted. I am very pleased that this program provides high school students with global business experiences. I hope this program helps nurtures the global workers of the future.”
FedEx has mentored many high school students through the job shadow program since 2007. In addition to this program, FedEx collaborates with Junior Achievement on a number of other activities. These include the FedEx /JA International Trade Challenge in the Asia Pacific region, the JA Company of the Year program, which teaches students about the world economy and leadership skills.
