FedEx opens a new station in Marseille and reinforces its business activity in the Bouches-du-Rhône and the Var
PARIS, France, March 11, 2005 – FedEx, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, has announced the opening of its new station in Marseille, enabling FedEx to make deliveries and pick-ups for customers in the Bouches-du-Rhône (13) and the West of the Var (83) counties.
Like the Rhône-Alpes, Midi-Pyrénées and Haute and Basse-Normandie regions, where FedEx has also recently opened stations, the Bouches-du-Rhône and the Var counties provide FedEx another significant opportunity for growth. This region, this region represents the third largest market for international express transportation in France. Many telecommunications, biotechnology and aeronautics firms are located in the area requiring the use of express transport services such as FedEx.
Located in Vitrolles, near Marseille-Provence airport, the station will be connected to FedEx’s international network by daily flights and road links to the FedEx European sorting center based at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle. Whether importing or exporting, customers in the region will thus have access to 24- or 48-hour express transport services to 220 countries and territories around the globe.
The Marseilles site is run by a team of about 20 recruited locally persons, consisting mainly of couriers for customer pick-ups and deliveries, plus administrative staff, operations managers and a sales force.
Customers dispatching from Marseille will be able to call on FedEx’s exclusive service to the United States. Parcels picked-up early afternoon will be delivered by 10.30 a.m. the next day. Another benefit for customers is the late pick-up service (up to 7 p.m. depending on their exact location) for guaranteed next-morning delivery to most European cities and delivery the day after next by noon to major Asian business centers.
