FedEx Opens its Largest Operation Station in China

September 5, 2011

HONG KONG, September 5, 2011 — FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, announced the official opening of a new operation station in Shanghai. The station is FedEx largest in China and has been established in response to growing customer needs and package volumes in the local market.

Occupying an area of 5,140 square meters in the Pudong Sanlin area, the station handles the pick-up and delivery of international express shipments for customers in the Huangpu, Jingan, Nanhui, Fengxian districts as well as parts of the Pudong New District.

The new station is supported by more than 90 employees and nearly 70 vehicles. It is equipped with an advanced inbound and outbound shipment sorting system, which can sort up to 3,500 shipments per hour. All shipments are connected to the FedEx global network, which reaches more than 220 countries and territories through the FedEx Express gateway at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

“In contrast to the slow economic performance shown in Western markets, China remains a driving force for the global economy,” said David L. Cunningham Jr., president, Asia Pacific, FedEx Express. “The new FedEx station in Shanghai allows our customers in eastern China to benefit from increasing trade flows within the Asia Pacific region, and reaffirms our on-going commitment to provide best-in-class services in China.

With foreign trade playing a significant role, Shanghai is one of the fastest growing economies in China and is expected to continue its steady growth. During the first half of 2011, exports and imports in Shanghai totaled US$207.89 billion, up 21% year-on-year[1].

As part of its commitment to supporting Shanghai market growth and business needs, FedEx signed a Strategic Collaboration Memorandum with Shanghai Airport Group in June focusing on the expansion of cargo and other operational facilities within the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

In Shanghai, FedEx currently has one an international express gateway at the Pudong International Airport, five international express operation stations, one domestic service distribution center and two domestic service operation stations.
