FedEx Recognizes Diverse Staff in Honor of International Women’s Day

March 7, 2008

Frankfurt/Main, Germany, March 7, 2008 – FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), in honor of International Women’s Day on March 8, underlines its commitment to foster a positive work environment in which all its employees have an opportunity to achieve their personal career aspirations.

FedEx is committed to supporting all their employees and has won recognition across the world for its ongoing drive to hire the right people for the right jobs irrespective of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation or creed.

The logistics industry has traditionally been perceived as male-orientated. FedEx has implemented a number of schemes across Europe, the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Asia to hire and retain a diverse range of staff. FedEx employees play a central role in helping the company fulfill the needs of its diverse customer base.

In Germany, FedEx Express signed the Diversity Charter last year. The Charter is based on the German corporate initiative “Vielfalt als Chance” (Diversity as an Opportunity), supported by Professor Maria Böhmer, Minister of State in the Federal Chancellery and Federal Government Commissioner for Integration. The initiative stipulates creating a working environment without prejudice in which all employees are equally valued.

FedEx also received multiple awards for its employee-friendly corporate culture. Since 2003, FedEx Express belongs to the Top 50 of “Germany’s Best Employers”, a competition which is held by the Great Place to Work® Institute in Germany and worldwide every year. FedEx also counts among the "Best Employers" in numerous other European countries.

“FedEx has a reputation as a progressive employer. Our recruitment policies, our in-house support programs and our inclusive environment have earned numerous awards and accolades from leading organizations, institutions and publications,” said Michael Kremer, Manager Human Resources Services at FedEx Express Central and Eastern Europe. “We need talented employees from all walks of life to fulfill our customer promises and have policies in place to make sure that all employees have the chance to thrive while working for us.”

Antje Schuett-Fahrenkrog, Vice President Customer Experience, Europe, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa, said: “I started working with FedEx as a student in the data entry department 23 years ago and have been given every opportunity to to progress my career ever since. The logistics industry may traditionally be seen as male-dominated, but my experience with FedEx has been very different. There has been no ‘glass ceiling’ on what I can achieve as a female manager.”

Susanne Weigert, Manager Operations, Central and Eastern Europe, adds: ”I appreciate the fact that FedEx offers male and female applicants the same opportunities if they are equally qualified. Moreover, the Company reacts very flexibly to the specific needs of female employees, for instance when they are pregnant or with regard to working hours when they return from maternity leave.”
