Fourth FedEx-Supported School Opens in Yen Bai Province

November 30, 2012

Yen Bai Province, Vietnam, March 12, 2012—FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company and a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), and the Vietnam Children’s Fund today announced the completion of a new school in Yen Bai Province.

Located in Luc Yen district’s Truc Lau commune, the school offers eight fully furnished classrooms, electricity, clean water, and indoor toilets and can accommodate more than 300 students. The school is the fourth to be funded by FedEx as part of its long-term commitment to addressing the social needs of the Vietnamese community.
“I am delighted with the opening of this new school for children in Yen Bai.  Many Vietnamese children in the rural areas don’t have a chance to attend school,” said David Carden, managing director of FedEx Indochina.  “As part of our corporate social responsibility efforts, we are very happy to continue to support the Vietnam Children’s Fund to construct this school.  I hope that our contribution will give these students the opportunity to learn and flourish and have a chance for a brighter future.”
FedEx has previously provided funding for the construction of three schools through the Vietnam Children’s Fund.  The first was Phan Chau Trinh junior high school, built at Chu Lai in 1999 .  A second school was built at Xuan Trung, Nam Dinh province, in 2005 and the third, Pham Phu Thu School, Quang Nam province, opened in 2005 to coincide with the APEC CEO Summit.

Currently there are more than 2,000 children attending FedEx-funded schools and many graduates are now in roles of responsibility in their communities as teachers, doctors and administrators.
