Two drivers for FedEx Freight have been selected to serve as America’s Road Team Captains by the American Trucking Associations (ATA).

They will serve with 17 other drivers as an America’s Road Team Captain, and were selected from 31 finalists who competed before a panel of judges near ATA’s Arlington, Virginia, headquarters.

To be nominated as a captain, candidates must be employed as a company driver or leased owner-operator by a full-dues-paying member of ATA. Each nominee must have an excellent safety record and demonstrate an ability to communicate a commitment to safety and professionalism.

The competition included a review of trucking industry expertise and a demonstration of communication skills, combined with community service and lifetime safety records. Collectively, the captains have 453 years of experience and more than 30.3 million accident-free miles.

“We are extremely proud of these drivers,” said Pat Reed, executive vice president and chief operating officer, FedEx Freight. “This achievement exemplifies their professionalism and commitment to safety. They will be excellent representatives for FedEx Freight.”

  • Eric Flick, a driver based in Reno, Nevada, has been with FedEx Freight for 19 years and has accumulated an impressive 2.1 million accident-free miles during his 22 years of professional driving. He and his wife De Layne have four children: Erika, Delise, Matthew and Devin.
  • Scott Woodrome, a driver based in Dayton, Ohio, has accumulated more than 1.8 million safe-driving miles during his 21-year career. He and his wife Lorraine have two daughters, Marilyn and Caroline.

The captains will travel around the United States for the next two years as representatives of the trucking industry, speaking at community events and schools, and to the news media, public officials and fellow truck drivers.
